Rescue Spa
By Kitty Lindstrom
Moving from Central Europe to New York with her family in the 90’s, Danuta Mieloch eventually made her way to Philadelphia and opened Rescue Spa in 1994. The rigorous training she received in Europe prepared her well for her work as a skincare specialist and aesthetician. “I love what I do, and I really understand skin.”
Eight years ago, Kim Zimmerman sought treatment for her troubled skin. She went to different dermatologists and tried an endless variety of skin care products; to no avail. She stumbled upon Rescue Spa, and came in for a facial. Since her first treatment, she has had healthier, clearer skin, and has since become the PR Director for the spa.
Conveniently located in the Medical Arts Building on Walnut Street, Rescue Spa is in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. Spacious, grand and welcoming, the spa takes up the entire floor. The environment has a silvery, metallic, soft look, with an industrial chic feeling. The space is expansive, comfortable and simply sparkles, and soothing piano music quickly lulls you into a relaxed state. This attention to detail is of great importance to Danuta, and is reflected in the high quality of services offered.

Upon entering, I am given a warm welcome from Sally, the Spa Manager. I am whisked away to the waiting area, and am seated on a custom-made, plush grey velvet couch. I sipped delightfully cool cucumber water, prepared fresh that morning (staff members come in an hour before the spa opens to prepare specialty waters for their clients, and to make sure everything is just right, including your choice of fresh cucumber, orange, or mint water). Diana, a lively, dark-eyed woman, greets me and takes me to a beautifully appointed, softly lit, spacious treatment room.
I am having the Classic Rescue European-Style facial. This helps lift the skin, making it look younger and more radiant. Diana customizes my treatment and addresses my current concerns (I am an avid swimmer, and the chlorine in the pool has dried out my skin). The steamer is set up and a waft of warm moisture helps open up my pores. Last U Cleansing Milk is applied prior to the Valmont Prime Renewing Pack (a gentle, enzymatic cream mask, which helps with hydration). As one of the best sellers, it also helps give the skin radiance and vitality. Diana cleanses again and re-evaluates my skin. She discusses what she sees and recommends more moisture. She does the extractions, gently yet effectively. An application of P50 is then applied. This “Facial-In-A-Bottle” helps exfoliate, balance, purify and tone, giving my skin a beautiful glow. The smell and feel of it was quite interesting and unique—I really love this! The Booster-Lifting MC110 is then applied, which helps plump and exfoliate the skin under my eyes and jaw, giving me a pleasant “lift.”
The relaxing Signature Massage comes next. This stimulates and rejuvenates the skin, giving it a manual lift, as well as helping with lymph node drainage and soothing the skin muscles. The Renew Pack (part of the Valmont Swiss line of skin care products) is applied for the massage. The Masque Visolastine E, an anti-aging, hydrating mask, is next applied on my face, neck, and decollete; I enjoy the cooling feel of the mask. This helps bring comfort to fatigued skin. Oxygenating VIP O2 cooling eye treatment comes next, helping with hydration, as well as soothing and restoring radiance, giving my eye area an instant glow. While the mask is treating my skin, I am given a luxurious hand-and-arm treatment. Using Valmont Voluptuous Rescue Balm, this treatment makes my skin feel soft, and much more supple. The Biologique Matriciel Visage Serum by Amniotique is then applied, helping with hydration, and is incredibly soothing. My skin needed extra hydration, so another layer of moisture is applied: the Biologique Moisturizing Biofixine. The Finishing Serum, Yall02, helps plump my skin, protects it from environmental damage and gives me a beautiful glow.
The facial is over, and I feel incredibly relaxed and rejuvenated. My skin looks and feels absolutely wonderful. As Danuta says, “Our profession is very profound. I feel very lucky to have affected so many people in such a positive way. It gives me great pleasure, and my clients get great results.” I couldn’t agree more.
