The Contemporary Coiffe
By Charmaine Bennett
When it comes to the modern art of hairstyle, many throw their hat in the ring for the attention they feel is deserved—yet few have the wide array of talent required to make a ‘one stop’ artist who can color, cut and style in equally measured proficiency, professionalism and inspiration.
Originally from Estonia, Marina Sadriyoun has been a hairstylist for 26 years—13 of which have been in the U.S. and she clearly fits that description, Marina has a diverse client list including the occasional high-profile individual. I caught up with her while she was styling a Food Network Celebrity Chef—getting her ready for a gala which was launching a national book tour.
“European women have much finer and much less hair than American women—it is thin and straight. So I when I came to the U.S., I had to re-learn everything for women with thicker, fuller hair.”
A true master of her trade, Marina’s commitment to the satisfaction of her loyal following is sincere and her passion runs deep. “It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you are happy. I am so glad I am in this business. The technology is ever-changing and I really enjoy making my customers happy.”
A believer in using all-natural products to avoid over-processed hair, Marina’s talents were recently utilized in a show featuring a new Revlon product. She is truly riding the cutting edge and is in high demand.
She can be found mastering her craft at Color Tess Salon, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
