Grabbing a Steak with Uncle Jack
By Doug Singer
Since November 1996, Uncle Jack's Steakhouse has been serving up a fantastic array of steakhouse fare to eager New Yorkers. Founder William Jack Degel has worked since that day to continually refine and perfect its operations and have received numerous awards and outstanding reviews in the process.
In his quest to provide his patrons with products of the absolute highest quality, Degel tried many established steak sauces. None met his exacting standards, so he ventured off on his own to solve this dilemma. In the process, he ultimately created four unique recipes using the freshest all natural ingredients available: Uncle Jack's Steak Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Sesame Teriyaki Sauce and Lemon Grass Ginger Sauce. Uncle Jack's steak sauces are now available in 3,000 gourmet stores today.
We arrived at his midtown Manhattan location and were greeted with a genuine warmth that set the table for a fantastic experience to come. From the moment we were greeted, the overwhelming aroma making its way out of the kitchen had us eager to get started.
The Fresh Buffalini Mozzarella Tomato Salad (Organic Greens, Basil Threads, Balsamic Reduction) and Wagyu Kobe Meatballs were a stellar beginning and cozied up right next to what is certain to e one of the best classic martinis I have ever imbibed.

Our entrees of the Prime Bone-In Filet Mignon (20oz.) and the Prime Rib Chop (aka Fred Flintstone - a 35 Day Dry-Aged Long Bone Tomahawk Chop, 24oz) were executed to perfection and of the highest quality—simply extraordinary. Melting the Black Truffle Butter over the top simply pushed the decadence factor into overdrive and the wine pairing completed the huge smiles now on our face.
Uncle Jack’s seems to stay focused on the classics, but also seems to elevate each and every dish and accompanying side. The Sautéed Mushrooms and Grilled Asparagus perfectly rounded out our meal and just when we thought that we couldn’t take any more, the arrival of the Banana Cream Pie (Butter Tartlet filled with brulee banana custard, topped with sliced caramelized bananas) and the Campfire S’mores Jar (Belgium chocolate pot de crème, graham cracker crumbles, and marshmallow fluff) proved us wrong.
Consistent, stellar service, warm ambiance and classic, yet elevated steakhouse fare, make this a must try Manhattan steakhouse.
