Fitness Redefined - Sage Studios Makes the Scene

Picture
Picture
Sage Studios is once again redefining the gym experience. Originally started as a personal training center in Whitestone, New York, founder and award-winning trainer Jordan Schneider partnered with ACE Certified PT, Danny Suarez, to launch an innovative fitness studio with a new twist on working out. This is a group environment, that takes advantage of cutting-edge technology to personalize each and every workout for everyone within the group—innovation at its finest.

Their entire approach is extremely refreshing. You may find the group on the rooftop overlooking the Manhattan skyline, or parading around the block with kettle bells. One thing is for certain, this is a fun, albeit serious workout and laced with a healthy dose of camaraderie.

Each class consists of 10 individuals and is designed to increase power, speed, strength, flexibility and muscle control, while burning fat. This all takes place over the course of a 45-minute session—one that easily fits into the schedules of the frenetically busy New Yorker. One of the beauties, is that you are not locked into an individual time. You can plug into any class, at any time and fit in. Their diversified method allows anyone, at any level of fitness, to participate, whether you have been working out your whole life, or just getting started after many years of a sedentary lifestyle.

Bottom line, this is lifestyle training—one that incorporates nutrition, exercise and a supportive group dynamic. Not your typical gym “fashion show” and display of self-admirers, but a group of like-minded individuals seeking to better themselves, or simply stay in shape. There is truly a home here for any type of goal within the fitness world.

With new partner Dino Tsagalas, Sage Studios has just added a brand new Bayside location and as to be expected the reception has been extremely positive and locals are eager to break a sweat to this new and exciting format. This is a team that has created something special—something that I will not be surprised to see popping up in every major city across the country.

What exactly is GRAND BRULOT I thought to myself as I opened the bottle for the first time just around the time this lockdown took effect. Well, Grand Brulot is listed as a VSOP Cognac Café and it can be used in Bloody Mary’s, Manhattans, Negronis, Martinis, spritzes and sidecars , just for starters. It is a blend of Ugni Blanc & Colombard that is crafted into 80 proof VSOP. Then 100% Robusta Ecuadorian coffee bean essence is extracted and blended with brandy to meld for a few months and finally, it is blended with the VSOP Cognac. There is also a whiff of peppermint, nutmeg and hot cocoa in the drink. The retail price is $42.99.

The idea for the drink was instigated in 2015 by John Bernbach who asked for the help of industry veteran Francisco Tonarely to investigate the potential of a cognac/brandy drink blended with coffee. Three year later in August 2018 Grand Brulot was launched. This cognac comes from the Tardy Cognac Group and the grapes come from its single estate. Grand Brulot also plays homage to a New Orleans specialty of the same name that is still served around town.  The name Grand Brulot was inspired by the famous French pirate Jean Lafite who helped New Orleans repel the British invaders in 1812. He would order coffee, pour cognac in the saucer, set it alight and mix it with the coffee.
