Is There Really a Cure for Rosacea? - Pyratine XR and Dr. Brandt Enter the Fray
By Michael Hepworth
Rosacea apparently affects 14 million Americans, and one of the most effective and latest topical products on the market is Pyratine XR. From personal experience I know that this works if you keep up the treatment, and since the launch in March 2009 the word of mouth has been good. Tests have proven that continued use produces 67% less redness, 84% smoother skin and 41% more moisture.
In general, Rosacea is a medical condition that is set off primarily by too much sun exposure without protection, emotional stress and certain over spicy foods such as chili and hot peppers. Excessive alcohol intake and especially red wine is also a cause, and surprisingly it affects adult women over 40 than men. The first line of defense if you think you may have it is the use of topicals like tetracycline, minocycline, metronidazole and sulfur creams.
If you think your situation is more extreme than normal, that’s where Pyratine XR comes into play. The use of cytokinins makes all the difference, growth factors derived from plants, that also repairs damaged skin and reduces papules, pustules and spider veins.
The physician strength topical comes in a cream or lotion form and can be purchased online ($79) or from selected dermatologists.
Of course, with such a lucrative market opening up, competitors are trying the same thing, and one brand worthy of mention is the Redness prevention lotion from Dr.Brandt. Called Redness Relief and priced much cheaper at $35 for a 1oz container the key ingredient in this lotion is Inflacin, a non steroid lotion that soothes and calms the skin and instantly reduces the redness. Also included is the excellent Pumpkin Seed Extract to prevent irritation, and the ever present Hyaluronic Acid.
After using this for a couple of weeks after the excellent results from Pyratine XR, I found almost similar results, so I guess budget considerations would be the only issue on which lotion to purchase. Dr Frederick Brandt is a world renowned dermatologist who has also developed a line of skin care products especially to help maintain youth and beauty and age-less looking skin.
