The Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1973® Debuts in the U.S.
THE GLENLIVET® RELEASES THE LATEST IDEATION OFTHE ESTEEMED CELLAR COLLECTION
NEW YORK, NY— June 1, 2010—The Glenlivet is proud to introduce the newest release of its esteemed Cellar Collection range: The Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1973. The best three casks from 1973 were chosen to create this incredibly unique expression, which is non-chill filtered and
bottled at cask strength. These bottles are individually numbered, and each are signed by the newly appointed Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, as his first release for The Glenlivet.
Alan Winchester has been appointed to the role of Master Distiller in recognition of hisdistinguished credentials and many years of exceptional service to The Glenlivet, and he continues a long tradition of excellence started in 1824. As his first duty, Alan Winchester had the responsibility of giving final approval to the 1973 Cellar Collection; his signature now adorns the bottle as a guarantee of quality alongside that of founder George Smith.
The 1973 expression is the eighth release of the award-winning Cellar Collection range, a series of limited releases of unique batches of single malt Scotch whisky, aged for decades and selected from the best casks in The Glenlivet cellars. Each expression enjoys the distinctive personality of The Glenlivet while displaying individual characteristics. In the case of the Cellar Collection 1973, the rare style of whisky was produced in part thanks to its age—36 years—and also its cask profile: a single ex-sherry butt and two refilled American oak hogsheads, hand-selected as the absolute zenith of the stock available. The result is a rich, sherried expression, of which only 240 bottles are available in the United States.
Alan Winchester explains, “The Cellar Collection 1973 is the supreme expression of what The Glenlivet is all about. Since George Smith first created The Glenlivet, we have strived for perfection, and the Cellar Collection allows us to create our absolute ideal whiskies from the oldest and rarest stocks.
The Cellar Collection 1973 has a sweetness that comes from the sherry influence which, combined with the fruity, nutty flavors, makes for the perfect whisky for when only something truly spectacular will do.” The Cellar Collection 1973 represents the pinnacle of the range and marks the tenth anniversary of the Cellar Collection. It joins the award-winning portfolio of single malts including a 12-Year-Old, a 15-Year-Old French Oak Reserve, the Nàdurra 16-Year-Old Cask Strength, an 18-Year-Old, the Archive 21-Year-Old, The Glenlivet XXV, along with the other rare offerings of the Cellar Collection. The Cellar Collection 1973, bottled at 49% ABV, will be available beginning in June 2010, with a suggested retail price of $1,250.
